“We find ourselves in a landscape where systems applied to sustainability reporting must delve into processes and technologies to streamline and enhance the accuracy, reliability, and relevance of corporate data. Achieving this objective requires examining the latest regulatory advancements in sustainability reporting, from the CSRD to specific regulations aimed at promoting sustainable finance, such as environmental taxonomy.”
With this statement the President of DIRSE and Director of Packaging Sustainability for Europe at The Coca-Cola Company Ana Gascón, opened the event organised by Sygris in partnership with DIRSE to launch the ninth edition of the DIRSE Toolkit, “How to Digitise a Sustainability Information System”. This document has been crafted to support companies in the digital transformation of their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) data—a growing need in today’s context, marked by increasingly stringent regulations like the CSRD and environmental taxonomy, among others. Featuring case studies from leading companies, this toolkit not only focuses on regulatory compliance but also highlights how digitalisation drives strategic advantages, from enhancing corporate reputation to optimising risk- and opportunity-based decision-making.

Juan Pablo Gallardo, Chief Commercial Officer of Sygris, provided an in-depth view of the benefits that a digitalised sustainability system offers, emphasising its impact on transparency, credibility, and companies’ ability to anticipate and manage risks. He also outlined the toolkit’s practical “roadmap”, detailing specific steps to implement sustainability information systems that strengthen brand image, improve client alignment, and broaden financing options.

The event also included a round table moderated by Sergio Brihuega, CEO of Sygris, bringing together prominent representatives from companies that have already implemented digital systems in their ESG processes. Speakers included Ana Fombella, Corporate ESG Manager at Molins; Emilio Tejedor, Head of Environment and Quality at Iberdrola; Javier Trujillo, Operations & Processes Transformation at BBVA; and Fernando Lázaro, Director of Sustainability and New Projects at Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine. They shared their experiences, challenges, and achievements, offering a comprehensive view of how digitalisation has enhanced their sustainability efforts.

Carlos Arango, Managing Director of DIRSE, concluded the event by providing guidance on complying with European regulations and emphasising the role of Double Materiality in corporate culture, linking ESG strategies with business goals, risk management, and financial sustainability.

The toolkit “How to Digitise a Sustainability Information System” will soon be available to all companies wishing to strengthen their ESG strategy in a dynamic regulatory environment.
